Compose is a storytelling incubator for women of color to rest and create.
Inspired by the words of the renowned and prolific author Toni Morrison, “the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work" - Compose equips 10 women of color annually with the mentorship, resources and physical space to nurture their innovation, creation and brilliant stories.
Storytelling is powerful, and it has the ability to expand understanding, build community and elevate new narratives. This has been especially relevant for historically marginalized identities, including women and the BIPOC community. Documenting our stories, that have so often been co-opted, misappropriated and misunderstood is crucial for transforming culture, building community and nurturing connection.
Rosa Rebellion is committed to amplifying the voices of women of color by serving as a storytelling incubator. We created Compose to offer you a space of rest, inspiration and connection to elevate our stories and creative activism.

Meet the 2022-2023 Mentors
Chloe is a beauty editor, formerly at ELLE Magazine. She knew she wanted to get into beauty the moment Donna Summer came on her screen and she's been chasing the perfect disco shadows ever since. Her sweet spot is the intersections of beauty with current culture, whether it's music, movies, or social media. You can find her in Brooklyn with her pug or in Rihanna's comment section.
Grace is an American screenwriter, presenter, and actress who got her start on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. She is a writer and producer of Hulu's Solar Opposites and she is partnering with Eva Longoria to develop a half-hour Mexican American family comedy series for ABC Network.
Sylvia is an entertainment journalist whose relatable and entertaining approach to news has made her a valued rising voice in culture. She was the co-host of Okay, Now Listen, a podcast in collaboration with Netflix's Strong Black Lead. Previously, she hosted Hella Opinions, an unapologetically black Twitter show she helped develop at BuzzFeed News, and was a producer/correspondent for the news site’s flagship show AM to DM. In addition, she has provided on-camera commentary and hosted live conversations for major brands like ABC, BET, CBS News, BBC, Netflix, H&M, and Universal Pictures.
